NEW DELHI: The Defence ministry on Tuesday said that India would “defeat the evil forces” behind the terrorist attack on an Army convoy in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 5 soldiers on Monday.
“Their selfless service to the nation will always be remembered & their sacrifice will not go unavenged and India will defeat the evil forces behind the attack”, defence secretary Giridhar Ramane said.
“I express profound grief on the loss of five bravehearts in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua, and extend deepest condolences to the bereaved families”, the post said.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh also expressed condolences over the death of soldiers.
“I am deeply anguished at the loss of five of our brave Indian Army Soldiers in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua (J&K)”, he said in a post on X.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Nation stands firm with them in this difficult time. The Counter Terrorist operations are underway, and our soldiers are determined to usher in peace and order in the region”, he added.

The defence officials on Monday informed about the attack saying, “Indian Army convoy attacked by terrorists in Machedi area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. The area falls under the 9 Corps of the Indian Army.”
There has been a notable increase in terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few months.
Additional director general of police Anand Jain reported that in June, security forces neutralized three terrorists in an encounter in the Gandoh, Bhaderwah sector of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir.
