NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee) and Kyoto University (KU) announced the inauguration of their joint research laboratory, INitiative for INtelligent ChemBioInformatics (IN-CBI), on Tuesday. Located at KU’s Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), the lab is dedicated to addressing global health and environmental challenges, with an initial focus on healthy aging and eye health, in collaboration with Narayan Netrayalaya, Bangalore.
The inauguration was attended by representatives from IIT-Roorkee, KU, and guests, including R Madhu Sudan, deputy chief of mission, embassy of India, Tokyo.
The KU-IITR joint lab aims to integrate expertise in biology, chemistry, artificial intelligence, machine learning, water sciences, and dietary studies to develop innovative solutions for age-related diseases. This collaboration symbolizes a convergence of two leading institutions’ strengths: KU’s expertise in chemical and cellular biology and IIT-Roorkee’s advanced engineering resources.
Kamal Kishore Pant, director of IIT-Roorkee, said: ” By partnering with Kyoto University, we aspire to address complex health challenges, creating impactful, sustainable solutions for a better future.”
Nagahiro Minato, president of DU, said: “IN-CBI represents the potential of international collaboration to foster groundbreaking discoveries. Together with IIT Roorkee, we will build a foundation for transformative research with lasting societal impact.”
The initiative is led by Professor Ganesh Pandian Namasivayam, supported by a multidisciplinary team from both institutions, including Professor P Gopinath, lead investigator, IIT-Roorkee, and Professor M Uesugi, director of iCeMS, KU.
