Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai.

NEW DELHI: Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday demanded an emergency meeting with Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav to address the severe pollution levels in the capital. Rai is also seeking immediate approval for cloud seeding to induce artificial rain as a measure to combat the pollution.
Rai criticised the central government, stating, “BJP’s environment minister sleeping over Delhi govt’s repeated request to call emergency meet over dire pollution situation.”

He further challenged the central government’s inaction, stating, “If Central govt can’t act, their minister should resign.”
Rai also called for the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across North India, alleging violations of the plan in BJP-led states.
Additionally, he urged PM Modi to intervene, citing a moral responsibility to address the pollution crisis and for the central government to take necessary action.
