NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister Internship Scheme is now open for applications, with the registration portal going live on Saturday. Candidates between the ages of 21 and 24 are eligible and can apply for the programme.
The internships will commence on December 2, as per the scheme’s pilot project which is estimated to cost around Rs 800 crore.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X,’ the Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced that the Prime Minister Internship Scheme is a transformative initiative aimed at equipping youth with skills to improve their employability.
It also added that the scheme aims to provide an opportunity for an internship in the top 500 companies in India for 12 months.
This scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It will be implemented through the online portal www.pminternship.mca.gov.in, developed by the ministry.
“The portal ensures efficient access to internships across sectors with Aadhaar-based registration and tools like bio-data generation,” the ministry said.
The portal is now open for the registration of candidates.
The Ministry stated that over the past week, the portal has added more than 80,000 opportunities across 24 sectors, including oil, gas & energy, travel & hospitality, and automotive.
Interns will be provided monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for 12 months and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000, under the scheme.
