AMBALA: Former Haryana home minister Anil Vij challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to contest state assembly against him from Ambala seat.
“If Rahul Gandhi considers himself so popular, let him contest the assembly election against me in Ambala, he will realize his popularity”, said Anil Vij. While challenging Rahul, Vij added, “If the laws can be changed to allow the election of the Chief Minister in an American style, let him contest against me, then he will know his popularity.”
Vij was responding to questions asked by media personnel on Monday. It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi said in Ahmedabad that the BJP would be defeated in Gujarat just like in Ayodhya.
Vij commented that in the results of the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi got more votes than before but he failed. This increase in votes has led him to mistakenly believe that he has become a national leader and is very popular, he said.
Regarding the stampede incident during the satsang in Hathras, where Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh chief minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, requesting higher compensation for the victims’ families, Anil Vij said, “Our government is very serious about the incident. A committee has been formed for investigation. As for the compensation, whatever has been decided by the states will be implemented, and it is the same for everyone.”
Former deputy CM of Haryana, Dushyant Chautala, who was once a part of the Haryana government and has now separated from the BJP, stated that he would expose the BJP government in the next 100 days. Responding to Dushyant, Vij said, “He was with the BJP. It is good that he is revealing the truth?”
Reacting sharply to Vij’s statement on Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Chitra Sarwara, who contested last assembly elections against Vij said, “Firstly, he (Anil Vij) should ask his party (BJP) whether it wants to make him chief minister face or not. It seems Anil Vij is too eager to become chief minister. Rahul Gandhi contested from two seats and won with good margin. While his leader and country’s Prime Minister who won with lead of 8 lakh from Varanasi in last election (2019), this time (2024) his margin has reduced to 1 lakh votes. This shows whose popularity is decreasing”, said Chitra.
