After two assassination attempts on former president Donald Trump, explosives were reportedly found in a car near the site where Donald Trump is scheduled to address a rally at Long Island. Nassau County Police department confirmed that there was a suspicious occurrence on Wednesday ahead of Trump’s address but there was no threat to the Republican presidential candidate.
Police dismissed the reports as unfounded though a person was detained in connection with the incident. ‘Reports of explosives being found at the site are unfounded,’ said Nassau County Commissioner of Police Patrick Ryde.
“There is a person who is being questioned who may have been training a bomb detection dog near the site. The individual with the bomb dog falsely reported explosives being found and that individual is currently being detained by police.”
Donald Trump is wearing the assassination attempts like a badge of honor as he Tuesday said only consequential presidents get shot at. But the Secret Service is under fire for the two attempts which they failed to eliminate. On July 13, Donald Trump was shot at by Thomas Matthew Crooks in Pennsylvania who was then killed by the Secret Service. Two months later, on September 15, there was another attempt on Donald Trump’s life in Florida as he was playing golf. But the would-be attacker was nabbed before he could do anything.
Trump’s security stepped up
Donald Trump arrived at Trump Tower in Manhattan with a heavy protection of Secret Service snipers.
A Secret Service counter-sniper team was stationed on scaffolding above and surveying the area as Trump’s motorcade pulled up. Law enforcement sources said the ex-president and his family are being treated to extra security details while visiting the city. His security detail is larger than that which any other former president receives while in the five boroughs, the sources added.
