Prince Harry is set to celebrate his 40th birthday on Sunday, surrounded by his wife Meghan and their two children, as well as embarking on a lads’ getaway with friends.
The Duke of Sussex‘s life has undergone significant changes since his last major birthday a decade ago when he was still a working royal, unmarried, and seemingly close to his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate.
In 2014, William and Kate had planned an intimate birthday dinner for Harry’s 30th at Kensington Palace, inviting close family members and friends. However, as the day approached, Kate began experiencing severe morning sickness during her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte.
Kensington Palace officials confirmed her condition, and Harry decided to postpone the party out of consideration for his sister-in-law’s well-being.
A source told the Mirror at the time, “Harry was in no doubt that the party should be postponed, even though 30 is an important milestone. Kate had been very involved in organising Harry’s party, and once she fell ill he felt it wrong to let the event go ahead.”
Despite the initial postponement, Vanity Fair reported that the party eventually took place at Clarence House instead of Kensington Palace, with King Charles sending champagne for the guests to enjoy.
As for his upcoming 40th birthday, reports suggest that Harry will embark on a trip with some of his “closest pals” after celebrating with his family. The exact location of the duke’s trip remains undisclosed, but PEOPLE magazine mentioned that Harry would have a “gathering of close friends internationally.”
One of his known close friends is his polo-playing confidante, Nacho Figueras.
