The hype around the DNC was building up as the days passed by, and so were the speculations about some high-profile, musical special guests making an appearance at the event, which were rumoured to be Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
Although the presence of some famous artists like Pink, the Chicks, Stevie Wonder and John Legend was confirmed, fans had high hopes regarding these ‘special’ unannounced names.
A report published in the entertainment news website TMZ added fuel to the speculations which confirmed the attendance of the Grammy-winning artist Beyonce to the event. According to the report, she was scheduled to perform on the fourth and final day, when Kamala Harris would deliver her address to the crowd and Democratic delegates present at the United Center.
It further claimed that Chicago police were “on high alert” and had been “involved in security” with Beyonce’s anticipated attendance.
Some delegates were also spotted earlier in the day wearing rhinestone or mirrored cowboy hats, a popular accessory on the singer’s Renaissance tour.
However, as Kamala Harris took the stage for her acceptance speech, various media outlets started publishing reports citing Beyonce’s planner that she was never supposed to attend the event, leaving fans disheartened.
Even though Beyoncé was not present at the DNC, she expressed her support for the Harris campaign by allowing them to use her song “Freedom.” Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s campaign had to remove a video featuring the same track after Beyoncé’s team threatened them with a cease-and-desist order.
Alongside the rumours regarding Beyonce, netizens also speculated regarding the attendance of Taylor Swift.
People’s hope was raised in the event when during a short commercial ad, a DJ at the DNC played Swift’s “Shake It Off” inside the United Center, fanning the rumours that the pop sensation might make an appearance tonight. However, it also turned out to be another false news.
People took the matter to social media and gave their reactions.
According to CNN, the Democrat’s sources clarified that their ‘special guest’ was Kamala Harris only and they did not want any celebrity performance at the end, which could have possibly overshadowed the seriousness of the elections.
