Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr reportedly approached the Kamala Harris team seeking a deal with the Democrat presidential nominee that he would suspend his campaign if he gets to serve in her administration — preferably as a Cabinet secretary. Kamala campaign has not paid any attention to the overtures as RFK Jr wanted a similar deal with Donald Trump as well.
In fact, RFK Jr and Donald Trump met in Milwaukee last month to discuss any possibility of a deal to but it didn’t fructify. RFK Jr sought a senior role in the cabinet related to health and medical issues.
Harris campaign is wary of RFK Jr’s approach and called him a MAGA-funded fringe candidate. “No one has any intention of negotiating with a MAGA-funded fringe candidate who has sought out a job with Donald Trump in exchange for an endorsement,” Harris spokesperson Matt Corridoni said.
A purported audio of RFK Jr and Trump was leaked in which RFK told Trump, “Anyway, I would love for you to serve. I think it would be so good for you and so big for you. And we’re gonna win – we’re gonna win – we’re way ahead of the guy.” The conversation was before the exit of president Joe Biden from the race.
Disowned politically by many members of his famous family, 70-year-old RFK Jr is an accused in a sexual assault case though he claimed to have no memory of it in his texted apology to his accuser. He was also struck from the ballot in New York over a “sham” claim that he lived in the state.
RFK Jr’s campaign shared data with the Democrats that whoever among Harris or Trump announces a Cabinet role for Kennedy would get a boost in their public support across 31 states.
‘Donald Trump vs Kamala going to be very close’
Kennedy said he is hoping that Kamala Harris will reconsider his offer for a meeting as rejecting his proposal would be a strategic mistake. “I think they ought to be looking at every opportunity. I think it is going to be a very close race,” he said. Earlier, Kennedy wanted the Democrat ticket replacing Biden but after he was snubbed, he announced his independent fight.
