NEW DELHI: Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar took a dig at Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and termed the alleged MUDA scam allegation “baseless.”
“BJP is doing politics. Their allegations are baseless, and we will respond to them at an appropriate time. Whatever happened has happened during the BJP rule and we will fight this false propaganda,” Shivakumar told reporters on Friday.
Earlier in the day, BJP Karnataka President B Y Vijayendra and various other party leaders were detained in Mysuru road when they were on their way to stage a protest against the alleged scam of site allotment to land losers by Mysuru Urban Development Authority. They were set to stage a protest rally in Mysuru, the Chief Minister’s home district, in an attempt to siege the MUDA office there.
“The Congress government is indulging in oppression. The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government doesn’t have the strength to stop our protest. In the days ahead from every corner of the state our BJP workers will come and lay siege in Mysuru and also Bengaluru. They have stopped us today, but our protest will continue,” Vijayendra said. “There should be an impartial investigation. There cannot be an SIT investigation headed by the state government. BJP is demanding that the CM should hand over the investigation of this case to the CBI”.
“It is a scam of more than Rs 5000 crores. So the CM cannot escape responsibility. Being the CM of the state, he should answer to the people of Karnataka. We demand that he should hand over the investigation of this case to the CBI,” said the BJP Karnataka chief Vijayendra.
Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah rebuffed Thursday BJP’s allegations that Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) had illegally allotted land to his wife Parvathi, accusing the opposition of targeting him due to his successful leadership as a backward-class CM for the second time.
“They are upset and are hatching a conspiracy against me because I became chief minister again,” he said, accusing BJP of making unsubstantiated claims without proof.
