NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition, Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Assam on Monday to meet with flood victims, according to party officials. His itinerary includes a stop at the Kumbhigram airport in Silchar, located in Assam’s Cachar district, before proceeding to Manipur, which has been grappling with unrest.
A state Congress spokesperson stated, “From the airport, he will be going to a flood relief camp in Lakhipur and interact with the people who have taken shelter there.” The camp is situated along the route that Gandhi will take to reach the Jiribam district of Manipur.
The floods have had a devastating impact on Assam, affecting approximately 22.70 lakh people across 28 districts. The state has witnessed a total of 78 fatalities this year due to floods, landslides, and storms.
Following his visit to Jiribam, Gandhi will return to Silchar airport and then fly to Imphal to continue his Manipur tour. This marks the Congress leader‘s inaugural visit to the Northeast region since assuming the role of the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
