NEW DELHI: The day is here! After months of intense campaigning, the 2024 Assembly election results for Haryana’s 90 constituencies are set to be revealed. As counting day approaches, the ruling BJP is confident about securing a third consecutive term, while the Congress, bolstered by exit polls and having been out of power for a decade, is hopeful of staging a comeback when results are announced on Tuesday.
A three-layered security system has been put in place at the counting centers before the counting of votes begins at 8am. The postal ballots will be counted first, followed by electronic voting machine (EVM) votes.
The Haryana Assembly elections were conducted in a single phase on October 5, after being postponed from the original date of October 1 by the Election Commission. Voter turnout for the 2024 15th Assembly elections stood at 67.90%. Sirsa district saw the highest turnout with 75.36%, while Faridabad recorded the lowest at 56.49%.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) with the Azad Samaj Party are the key parties in the state.
This year’s Haryana Assembly election saw a total of 1,031 candidates, with a decline in the number of women contestants, only 101 women participated in the race.
According to exit polls, the Congress is set to make a victorious comeback in Haryana after a decade out of power. The party is projected to win around 55 seats, surpassing the 46-seat majority threshold with ease. The BJP, meanwhile, is expected to secure about 27 seats. The INLD is predicted to claim 2 seats, the JJP 1 seat, and other parties are likely to win a combined total of 5 seats.
