The dog not only led police to the crime scene but also stopped at the houses of the accused. After initial round of investigation, the suspects were taken into custody.
During questioning, the accused minors told cops that they spotted the girl playing and lured her to come with them to play. The trio then took her to an isolated spot near Muchumarri irrigation project, gagged and raped her one after the other. Fearing arrest, they killed the child, discarded her body in the canal and fled.
