GUWAHATI: With seven more deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll in Assam floods rose to 79 (since May), even as CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday declared that the state is on the path to recovery as water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have receded below danger levels in most regions.
While two flood-related deaths were reported from Cachar district, one each was reported from Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Dhemaji, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts since Monday.There were four children among the dead. Assam State Disaster Management Authority said over 17.2 lakh people were still affected by the deluge.
Earlier in the day, Sarma took to X, describing the falling trend of major rivers as “good news” amid the second wave of floods in the state.
