India tightened their grip on the first Test in Perth as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten 141 guided them to 275/1 at lunch on day three, building a commanding 321-run lead. Resuming on 90 overnight, Jaiswal brought up his fourth Test century in style, upper-cutting Josh Hazlewood to the boundary. Supported by KL Rahul’s 77, the duo shared a record 201-run opening stand, India’s highest in Australia.
Jaiswal, who started cautiously, became increasingly aggressive as Australia’s bowlers tired, forcing unorthodox field placements. He survived a missed run-out on 101 but played with growing fluency, frustrating the Australian attack. Rahul eventually edged Mitchell Starc to Alex Carey, breaking the partnership.
Devdutt Padikkal (25 not out) joined Jaiswal, further adding to Australia’s woes. Even with the second new ball, Australia’s seamers struggled, conceding 20 runs in four overs. With a massive lead on a deteriorating pitch, Team India remains firmly in control.
