Aqib Javed, the former Pakistani fast bowler, has been named the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the announcement, stating that Javed will lead the white ball team through the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Javed will continue his role on the men’s National Selection Committee while taking on the added coaching responsibilities.
The PCB plans to begin the search for a permanent white-ball head coach after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy.
The goal is to have the new coach in place by the tournament’s end, which is scheduled for March 9, 2025.
Gary Kirsten’s resignation from the white-ball coaching position created the vacancy.
Jason Gillespie, the red-ball head coach, oversaw the team’s recent tour of Australia and will rejoin the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
Pakistan’s men’s team will play three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5.
They will then travel to South Africa for three more white-ball matches from December 10-22.
As a final preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa for a tri-series ODI tournament from February 8-14.
