Donald Trump on Sunday suggested that the administration has failed to curb the criminal activity and one effective was will be to allow the police “one rough hour” to tackle the issue. “One rough hour and I mean real rough, the word will get out and it will end immediately,” Donald Trump said.
What Donald Trump suggested is not new to the fiction world. It is the plot of the 2013 movie The Purge — a series of dystopian horror action films. America, in The Purge, observes an annual event known as “the purge”, in which all crime, including murder, is legal for a 12-hour period.
“In PA today, Donald Trump gave one of the most dangerous speeches of the 21st century by describing his strategy for reducing crime as Kristallnacht, “one extraordinarily rough, one really rough nasty day. One rough hour. You know it’ll end immediately”,” one user wrote.

“Trump is literally proposing The Purge lmao,” another pointed out. “Did Trump just f**king suggest “The Purge”? Trump implies that his idea for stopping crime is to allow for “one really violent day… I mean real rough”,” another wrote.
In MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the anchor suggested that Trump did suggest an hour of violence. “He did suggest there should be an hour of violence, which sounds like the plot of ‘The Purge,’ which is deeply dangerous. We know how his words have inspired violence before, including but not limited to January 6,” Jonathan Lemire said. “His followers are hearing what he’s saying,” Lemire added.
“Trump claiming “The Purge” is his idea and wanting to implement it IRL. How is this race close? Trump says his idea for stopping crime is to allow for “one really violent day”: “One rough hour, and I mean real rough…” another posted.
“I love how the media is pretending the two presidential candidates are on equal footing, rather than admit one of them is a dementia addled orange insanity, sincerely recommending The Purge as a policy position,” one wrote.
