Vice president and the presidential candidate of the Democratic Kamala Harris will be debating former president Donald Trump for the first time Tuesday on Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center for ABC News for 90 minutes. A coin flip was done on Tuesday which Trump won and got the privilege of choosing either podium placement or closing statement order.Trump chose to speak last and have Harris the podium placement. Kamala Harris will be on the right side of the screen, but left on the podium.
What happened during Trump-Biden CNN debate
Biden won the coin toss and chose the podium position on the right side of the screen. Donald Trump that time got the final closing statement. Trump’s position was on the left side that time too.
Like the CNN debate, there will be no live audience in this too. The Harris campaign wanted the microphone to be unmuted during the whole span of the debate but ABC News rejected it. Harris campaign thinks this will put Harris in a position of disadvantage. “Vice President Harris, a former prosecutor, will be fundamentally disadvantaged by this format, which will serve to shield Donald Trump from direct exchanges with the Vice President,” her campaign told ABC in a letter. “We suspect this is the primary reason for his campaign’s insistence on muted microphones,” it said, as reported by the Washington Post. Candidates will also not be permitted to ask each other questions.
‘No boxes or artificial lifts’: What is the row about?
Kamala Harris’s height is 5’4” and with heels which she said she always wears, she’s 5’7”. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is 6 feet 2 inches tall. On Saturday, Donald Trump said no boxes or artificial lifts will be allowed during the debate. “We had this out previously with former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg when he was in a debate, and he was not allowed a ‘lift’,” he said adding that this is a form of cheating.
This drew flak from the democrats as Trump will tower over Kamala Harris because of his height if no box is allowed.
