A mother in Savannah, Ohio, handcuffed her 6-year-old son’s hands and feet and allowed a pit bull to attack him as a form of “corporal punishment,” according to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office. The boy suffered bites to his neck and ear and was quickly airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities said that the child’s mother, Angelina Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, was staying with a relative, Robert Michalski, the homeowner and owner of the pit bull.Angelina’s boyfriend, Taylor Desiree Marvin-Brown, who was at the house and assisted in restraining the child, was taken into custody along with Williams and Michalski.
The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office said that they received an emergency call requesting medical assistance at a residence in Savannah on August 17, where the caller reported that a young child had been attacked by a Pitbull.
In a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office it said: “On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 5:06 pm the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for a squad to be sent to 23 Chapel Street, Savannah Ohio. Dispatchers were told that a Pitbull had bitten a 6-year-old child on the neck and ear. When the squad members and deputies arrived, the child was in serious condition and Life Flight was called. Deputies identified the mother as Angelina Williams of Cleveland Ohio, who was living with a family member of Robert Michalski, who was the owner of the house and dog. Robert had left the house with Pitbull prior to deputies arriving.”
“On Monday, detectives and deputies learned through an investigation that the 6- year-old child had been restrained with handcuffs on his hands and feet when the Pitbull attacked him. A search warrant was executed at the house where deputies recovered evidence to support the investigation. Also, they found Robert and the Pitbull hiding in a cubby hole upstairs at the residence. The Pitbull was taken into custody to be housed as a vicious dog. Angelina Williams and Robert Michalski were taken into custody and taken to jail,” the statement added.
The boy’s mother Williams, her boyfriend Marvin-Brown and the owner of the dog Michalski, have all been charged with felony endangering a child by administering “corporal punishment,” as indicated by their online inmate rosters.
The Pitbull was seized and taken into custody, where it will be housed as a vicious dog.
Williams and Marvin-Brown face additional charges of obstruction of justice for providing false information, while Michalski, who also owns the home, is charged with tampering with evidence.
They are currently held at Ashland County Jail with cash or surety bonds ranging from $150,000 to $300,000, according to their inmate rosters, the PEOPLE reported.
