Kerstin is a film producer who divorced Doug 14 years ago when Doug apparently cheated on her having had an affair during their marriage.
But the familial ties remain strong with all of them cheering for Kamala. Cole, who has also become a filmmaker, made a film for Doug and Kamala and the family it is now — with Kerstin being the producer of the film.
“What a gift from Cole. I’ll never forget this,” Doug shared the video capturing Doug’s journey and then the family’s journey. “My dad is a lawyer and a really good one. My mom calls him the crisis guy because he’s everyone’s first call. My parents split when I was in middle school and that wasn’t easy…but it helped that my parents stayed friends. And we all kept hanging together. We grew closer than ever. And then he met Kamala, the blind date that would dramatically change all of our lives – forever. It was my senior high school. Ella and I would laugh watching them to fall in love — acting like teenagers.”
“In 2014, Kamala became Momala. She took over Sunday night dinner and taught Doug how to actually cook. Her blended family wasn’t used to politics or spotlight but when Kamala became senator, we were all excited to step up and especially Doug. Then Kamala became Vice President. It felt like Doug was out of place in Capitol Hill. I felt like what’s my goofy dad doing here. But he embraced it. He left his practice after being a lawyer for 30 years. That was tough. I was so proud to watch him do it — to stand by her side,” the voiceover of the video said.
