A terrifying incident in Harlem on Monday was caught on video, showing a pickup truck mounting the sidewalk and striking two pedestrians.
The crash happened around 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of St. Nicholas Avenue and West 148th Street. According to police, the driver lost control of the truck, causing it to veer off the road and onto the sidewalk.
Surveillance footage shows the truck hitting two men, who were thrown into the roadway by the impact. The vehicle then collided with a fire hydrant and a parked UPS truck, , as quoted by New York Post.
A bystander captured additional footage showing paramedics attending to the victim who was lying on the roadway, clutching his head. Emergency responders quickly placed him on a stretcher and transported him to an ambulance, as a small crowd gathered nearby.
A man who appears to be the other victim described to officers at the scene how the driver cut the corner and jumped the curb before striking him and the man on the ground, according to the Citizen app video.
“[The driver] cleared out both of us. I went up in the air, he went under,” he tells the cops in the clip.
The driver, who was uninjured, remained on the scene, police said.
“It could have been any one of us,” said the woman filming the Citizen video, mentioning that she heard the crash from a nearby building’s upper floor.
The two victims were taken to NYC Health and Hospitals Harlem and are in stable condition. No further details about their injuries have been released.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges had been filed as of Monday night.
