NEW DELHI: Car industry may he heading for a slowdown, with top three companies (Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors) reducing wholesale deliveries to dealerships in July (year-on-year), around two months before start of festive season. Maruti’s dispatch numbers were down 10%, while for Hyundai the dealer sales were lower by 3%. Tata Motors was also in the red, with July sales down 6%.Honda Cars was also down by 5%.
While Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota reported positive numbers in July, growing by 15% and 44% respectively, most of their dispatches are for completing backlog deliveries that have been pending. In two-wheelers, Hero Moto was down 6%, while HMSI was up 41%.
