NEW DELHI: The transition period has begun for Team India in the shortest format of the game.
Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian T20I cricket team reached Pallekele via Colombo from Mumbai on Monday.
The Indian cricketers headed for their first practice session of the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday under the watchful eyes of Gautam Gambhir who succeeded Rahul Dravid as the head coach.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, displaying Gambhir’s leadership role in the training field.

Earlier, the official broadcaster of the series shared a few clips on their official X handle of the Indian cricketers reaching the stadium and entering the field for a practice session.

The Indian cricket team will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka, starting on July 27 and ending on August 7.
The national selectors handed over the vice-captaincy to Shubman Gill in both T20Is and ODIs. Hardik Pandya was relieved of vice-captaincy in both formats.

The selectors have also convinced Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who recently announced their retirements from T20I cricket, to travel to Sri Lanka for the three ODIs.
Ravindra Jadeja, who too announced his T20I retirement after the T20 World Cup, has not been named in the ODI squad. Gambhir, in his press conference on Monday, made it clear that Jadeja has been rested for the tour.

Riyan Parag has been named in both teams and Shreyas Iyer, who lost his central contract earlier this year for missing out on domestic cricket, has been drafted back into the squad.
