Donald Trump disclosed the contents of a conversation he had with President Biden shortly after surviving an assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania in a recent interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters.
According to Trump, Biden told him, “You’re lucky you turned to the right,” referring to the moment when the 78-year-old Republican presidential nominee turned his head to look at a chart, narrowly escaping a bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks during the rally in Pennsylvania, on July 13. Trump described the conversation with the 81-year-old president as a “nice” one.
During the interview, which was recorded on Saturday but aired on Monday, Trump also shared that he refused to be carried off stage on a stretcher after the sniper’s bullet grazed his ear.
Despite the Secret Service agents’ insistence on using a stretcher, Trump stood his ground, saying, “I’m not going on a stretcher.” The agents, who had piled on top of him moments after the shots were fired, initially believed he had been hit in the abdomen.
However, Trump maintained that he felt the injury was to his ear, although he acknowledged the presence of “a lot of blood” that may have concerned the agents. This led to a “little argument” while the agents were still lying on top of him, with Trump asserting, “I’m telling you, I’m OK. I’m fine. I’m going to get up. I want to get up. I’m not going to be taken out on a stretcher.”
Regarding his current condition, the GOP nominee reported that his right ear is “good” and “getting much better,” with the bandages gradually becoming smaller. He described the wound as “a nasty one.”
Trump also suggested that an investigation should be conducted to determine whether the White House attempted to cover up Biden’s physical and mental decline. He argued that someone should look into the matter, saying, “Look, you had people that lied to the American public. And I tell you what, you ought to take a look at his doctors, because his doctors keep giving him this wonderful report.”
