NEW DELHI: PV Sindhu, the renowned badminton star, has been chosen to carry India’s flag alongside Achanta Sharath Kamal, the celebrated table tennis player, during the opening ceremony of the upcoming Paris Olympics.
“I am delighted to announce that India’s only woman to win two Olympic medals, PV Sindhu, as the female Flag-bearer alongside Table Tennis ace A.Sharath Kamal in the opening ceremony. “I am confident that our athletes are well prepared to deliver the best results for India in Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha said.

The IOA had selected Kamal as the flag bearer back in March. However, they postponed the decision on choosing the female athlete to accompany him.
In 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) updated its protocol, permitting one female and and one male athlete of each NOC to bear the flag jointly during the opening ceremony of the Summer Games.
More than 100 athletes have qualified for the Paris Games, starting July 26.
Gagan Narang, a veteran of four Olympic Games and a bronze medal winner in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event at the 2012 London Olympics, has been selected as the new Chef-de-Mission for the Indian team participating in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Narang will take over the role from MC Mary Kom, who previously held the position.
